Lotus Elan Picnic

Classic Team Lotus were pleased to support the event which turned out most enjoyable day. With dry weather (if a little chilly), good folk and good cars, it was great to meet so many Elan owners. The first Elans were there at 8.00am and the last left at 5.00pm and as cars came and went over the duration of the day, there ended up being just over 60 Elans present to celebrate the 60th. A great achievment by organiser Tim Wilkes.

Early arrivals helped erect the Classic Team Lotus gazebos that had been organised by William Taylor of Coterie Press. Now full time employee at CTL, William also very kindly donated four of his books as prizes for the raffle. As an additional prize CTL donated a £50 parts voucher for the new CTL Parts Department. Raffle winners included the Chris Howe, (some compensation for his arduous drive), Richard Cox, Stephen Hall and Ian Featherstone.

CTL organised two Factory tours conducted by Richard Parramint, which were well supported and much appreciated, Richard's excellent running commentary of Team Lotus history adding much to everyone's enjoyment. The parts department at CTL was also open for visitors to walk around and drool over - far too many shiny sweets for us kids! Proceeds from the the tours were kindly donated to charity by CTL. Matt Windle, Lotus CEO was an early visitor. He had been at Hethel showing the Geely people around the ever-expanding production facility and spent a deal of time admiring the Elans, bringing along an Emira for us to look over and chatting to owners and enthusiasts. Highlight of the day for many was the arrival in the early afternoon of a pretty and well-kept yellow S4 DHC, driven by Clive Chapman. It is actually his daughter Sophie's car. Clive then spent virtually the rest of the afternoon going around meeting cars and owners alike, making the draw for the raffle and having his photo taken.
