RAC Historic Awards Restoration of the Year
Nick Fennell’s Lotus type 38 is in the final three for the RAC Historic Awards Restoration of the Year.
Classic Team Lotus is delighted that Jim Clark’s 1967 Indy 500 car has made it to the last stage of Restoration of the Year. After four decades away, Nick Fennell sent this exciting car back to Hethel for Classic Team Lotus to return it to exactly race day specification. Nick was heavily involved with the painstaking research into the history and was tireless in tracking down correct to period technical details and components. Kevin Smith was the lead mechanic and Steve Jest undertook the fabrication work, while the rest of the team were involved as and when necessary, under the guidance of Team Manager Chris Dinnage.
Clive Chapman will join Nick, Kevin and Steve for the awards ceremony this Thursday 21st November at the Royal Automobile Club on Pall Mall. 38/7 is up against Bentley and Land Rover in the Restoration of the Year category. Final judging took place at Bicester Heritage last week. Fingers crossed!
