Dario parades Lotus 38 at Indy 500
02/06/15 - The Henry Ford Museum very kindly invited Clive Chapman to the Indianapolis 500 to celebrate 50 years since Jim Clark's win
Clive was honoured to attend the Indy 500 with CTL customers and Team Lotus Indy mechanic David Lazenby. They were in good company when they arrived, being joined by Leonard Wood; of Woods Brothers pit crew fame, Sally Stokes; Jimmy's companion during his career and Dario Franchitti; 3 time Indy 500 winner.
Dario was invited to drive Jimmy's 38 for a parade lap before the start of the Indy 500 on the Sunday. In an interview with USA Today: “If you ask me what the chassis handles like, I wouldn’t be able to tell you, because I haven’t driven the thing anywhere near the limit,” he said. “That’s just not what it’s about. This car is a time warp from 1965. Apart from two pieces, it’s completely original. It did one race and they parked it. In 2009, when they started to restore it, it still had the original oil in it.”
The Henry Ford put together this short film to show how the type 38 changed the way of the Indy 500
