CTL saddened by the passing of George Barber
Classic Team Lotus is deeply saddened by the news that George Barber has died. Mr Barber established the Barber Motorsports Park in Birmingham, Alabama; a world class centre of automotive endeavour on an 880 acre site. An architecturally splendid building houses the world’s largest collection of motor cycles alongside the world’s largest collection of Lotus cars. Alongside is the Barber circuit which is a state of the art race track hosting Indycar racing and the Porsche North America Driver Training. Barber Motorsports Park is the largest philanthropic enterprise in the State.
Mr Barber was a great supporter of the Lotus Marque and Classic Team Lotus in particular. First and foremost he always encouraged our endeavours with unbounded readiness to support our own efforts. And he commissioned many special projects to further his stated ambition to collect one of every Lotus.

The Chapman Family appreciates the extraordinary tribute to Lotus created by Mr Barber. Clive Chapman comments: ‘Like so many others I am privileged to have had the pleasure of knowing George Barber. He was an inspirational figure who achieved amazing things and to the highest standard. Throughout he was a true gentleman who genuinely cared for all those within the Barber community. I am proud to be a member of that community and I will look forward to supporting George’s fabulous legacy.’
