Lotus Day 2024
The weekend of March 29-31 saw Lotus Day 2024 at the Zhejiang circuit in China. Clive and his sister Jane were delighted to be invited along as guests of honour by Lotus Cars and to be part of this enjoyment of Lotus.
Clive and Jane were warmly welcomed to the event by CEO of Lotus Mr. Feng and President of Lotus Cars CN Miss Mao in front of an incredible full-size replica of Colin's plane G-PRIX and a stunning deep red Lotus Evija Hypercar. Clive and Jane explained to the guests how they would often travel to F1 Grand Prix races with Colin & Hazel in G-PRIX.
The impressive three-day event was put on "For the Drivers" many of whom arrived in their own Lotus and were given special parking at the entrance.
It was great to catch up with the five showcars we built and shipped out to China in early 2023 (Mk1, Eleven, 25, 79 & 99T). Lined up in chronological order they all looked fabulous in the sunshine and Clive and Jane were pleased to tell the guests all about them. The Mark 1 certainly attracted a lot of interest.
After the welcome each day guests were treated to display areas representing Classic Team Lotus, Lotus Bespoke and Lotus Life, as well as access to the first Chapman Lounge area that is being rolled out across Lotus Dealers in China. There was a book area, a steak bar, a barber's shop, cafe, and a coffee bar.
There were simulators available to drive the GT4 Emira (the real cars were on display in the pit garages) and plenty of examples of the new Lotus models Emira, Eletre and Emeya were available to test drive on the track. Clive and Jane both had a chance to test Eletre and Emeya.
Guests arriving in a Lotus were able to complete a parade lap or two in their own car... behind a pacecar. Soem guests (Jane included) were treatd to a few laps in the Emira GT4 racecar with Jenson Button
Each day featured the "Lotus Moment", an on-track celebration which included the now almost obligatory ACBC "Hat Throw".
