Lotus 1-2-3 at Silverstone Historic Festival
The Silverstone Historic Festival in August was a pretty special moment for any Lotus fan. For the first time ever, the Lotus Mark I, Mark II and Mark III cars were seen together in the same place, at the same time. Quite an occasion for the history books.
A joint production by Cub Lotus and the Lotus Drivers Club, the Festival saw one of the biggest gatherings of Lotus road cars in recent memory. The CTL stand featuring the 1-2-3 was described by one visitor to the event as "the best dispaly here this weekend" which was a great compliment. The three cars were cleverly matched to oversize display prints of the corresponding car that we hope, did the owners Clive Chapman, Nigel Halliday and James Moores proud. Huge thanks are due to the three for letting us dispaly this historic trio together for the first time.
The Lotus clubs area was the stand out grouping of the club stands for the whole event, as confirmed by live broadcast TV interviews conducted by Ant Anstead, Mike Brewer and even Jodie Kidd! We were told that the car count reached over 180 at one point on Saturday which is more than have been seen in any previous year at the Silverstone event.
As the skies continued to darken with storm clouds that would bring rain later in the day, the majority of the cars made it out onto the track for the Lotus 75-years "parade". Led by Clive Chapman's personal Emira everyone had to wait in the formation area for over an hour before finally getting waved onto the track for what would be 'almost' a whole lap, and at very slow speed, before queuing to get off the circuit.Â
The 1-2-3 of early Lotus cars was for many, the highlight of the Lotus display area and the Mark I reconstruction which was making it's publice debut garnered a lot of attention. You can expect to see the Mark I featured in several magazine features over the next few months. Images from a "first and last" Mark 1/Emira photo shoot by Leigh Jones caught our eye!
It was certainly great to see so many Lotus cars over the weekend and great that CTL got to be part of the best display of the weekend.
