Colin James Crombac
Sad news. Today we learnt of the passing of Colin Crombac who died yesterday at his home in Paris. Colin James Crombac was the son of Gérard "Jabby" Crombac and his wife Catherine and was named Colin James in honour of close friends Colin Chapman and Jim Clark.
In 1954 French journalist Jabby Crombac visited the Lotus works in Hornsey and bought a Lotus Mk6 from Lotus founder Colin Chapman. This marked the start of a long and close friendship with Colin and Hazel. When Colin passed away in 1982 there was no better person than Jabby (seen below with Colin Chapman at Le Mans in 1958) to write Colin's biography, Colin Chapman the Man and His Cars. Published in 1984 this wonderful and personal recollection of the life and times of Colin Chapman was always on the Lotus 'Best-sellers' list.
In 2022 Jabby's son Colin collaborated with Clive Chapman and gave his permission to republish his father Jabby's words in a new expanded format, with all new images and additional text. The book was published in May of this year and Clive was pleased to be able to present Colin with one of the first copies.
Rest in Peace, Colin James Crombac who will always be part of the Lotus story.
