Lotus Black & Gold wins the inaugural Corkscrew Hillclimb
Chris Locke won the first ever Corkscrew Hillclimb run at the Rolex Monterey Motorsport Reunion event in August. New for this year, the Corkscrew Hillclimb time trials started on the front straight at Laguna Seca and continued clockwise through turns 11, 10, 9 and 8, and finished about 50 yards past the crest of the infamous corkscrew corner.
Entries to the event were limited to 60 cars and included some modern electric performance cars. A Porsche 908 was three tenths of a second quicker than Chris on the final run, but driving Type 77 (JPS14) chassis 77/3 Chris stormed up the hill to record the quickest average of the three timed runs and took the overall win.
The suitably oversize corkscrew trophy which was presented to Chris by Barry Toepke will be engraved and kept on display at Laguna Seca. The Type 77 was also awarded a Rolex Excellence trophy for the 'Race 13' group. All in, a pretty successful weekend for Chris and the 77.
